Our Atlanta car accident attorneys know that vehicle accidents account for too many unnecessary deaths in our area. Just last weekend there were nine accidents in the Atlanta metro area, according to news reports, which caused ten deaths.
Some of these accidents involved a single vehicle, like the tragic crash in Douglas County where the driver tried to turn too quickly for a last minute exit. The SUV flipped over several times, and several of the children riding in the car were thrown from the vehicle. One child, seven year old Jamal Lewis, died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. His sisters, Santerria and Jasmine, ages 14 and five, were seriously injured. Among her injuries, Jasmine had a broken pelvis and had to undergo surgery in Atlanta. Santerria is still on life support. Two other children, ages 15 and 13, were also taken to area hospitals. Apparently only the driver and front seat passenger were wearing seatbelts, which is why the children in the back were thrown. A Douglasville police officer told reporters that it was one of the worst accidents even veteran cops had ever seen, particularly because of the tragic death and serious injuries of so many children.
Other crashes this weekend involved multiple vehicles. On Friday night two motorcyclists were killed and one injured in an accident with a stopped car on I-285 between the Camp Creek Parkway and Washington Road. The two motorcyclists, Kendrick Brown and William Small, smashed into the car and died. On Ga. 400 northbound, another motorcycle accident happened on Saturday involving a brother and sister, David Neil and Sarah Howell. David was driving the motorcycle when he clipped a wall, which possibly involved a Jeep Liberty as well. When he clipped the wall, his sister on the back of the motorcycle was thrown and died from her injuries. David Howell was charged with first degree vehicular homicide and DUI. An accident involving a car and a bicycle killed a 52 year old man on Saturday, as well. He was riding along Ga. 6 in Paulding County when a car driven by 20 year old Lindsey Harris hit and killed him.
