Too often car accidents cause the death of someone involved, as our Atlanta car accident attorneys know well. This was the case last week in a two-car crash, and the week before when a pedestrian was hit and killed, both in Bibb County.

Solid Yellow Lines

Last Thursday evening, January 30th, two cars were traveling westbound on Interstate 16 near Ocmulgee East Industrial Boulevard, according to news reports. At about 7:15 p.m., a Honda Accord and a Jeep Wrangler got into an accident. The Honda was driven by 37-year-old Laurie Bowers of Bluffton, South Carolina. In the Jeep, there were two 19-year-old young men, Thomas Tyler Duncan from Locust Grove and Spencer Rush from McDonough. Mr. Duncan was reportedly driving. Ms. Bower was trapped in her car after the accident, and tragically died at the scene, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones. Mr. Duncan and Mr. Rush were injured and taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. Traffic was backed up in both directions on I-16 while the sheriff’s department investigated. The cause of the accident continues to be under investigation, according to Bibb County Lieutenant Sean DeFoe. “We’re still investigating how the two vehicles came to meet,” said Lieutenant Brad Wolfe. The Bibb County District Attorney’s Office has called for an autopsy of Ms. Bower’s body.

Lieutenant Wolfe used this opportunity to remind everyone, “Always drive defensively. Concentrate on driving when you’re driving. Don’t be distracted by cell phones, texting, [or] listening to the radio. You need to concentrate on the task at hand.” Mr. Jones noted that Ms. Bower’s death is the fifth traffic fatality in Bibb County this year, and the year is barely more than a month old.
