While 2015 is not yet over, preliminary data is already being obtained to assess road safety in the United States. Unfortunately, recent reports from the Los Angeles Times have some bad news for motorists: the car accident death toll is rising. There are a number of factors leading to an increased risk of fatal conditions nationwide, and drivers need to be aware they face a greater chance of getting hurt or killed in a collision as compared with in recent years.  gas-station-01-1463290

Why Are Car Accident Risks Rising for Atlanta Drivers?

In 2014, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration spearheaded efforts to get more than 7.4 million car seats recalled. The reason for the recall was a defective buckle that could cause the car seat to function improperly, putting children at risk. child sad

An Atlanta car accident lawyer knows that car seats have a huge impact on whether a child will be hurt or killed in a collision or not. As many as 1/3 of all kids under the age of 13 who lose their lives in a motor vehicle accident are not properly secured using a car seat, booster seat or seat belt at the time of their deaths. Unfortunately, many parents try to secure their children but it turns out that a problem with the car seat (like a defective buckle) results in the child not having the necessary safety protection. The NHTSA is trying to help parents to avoid this problem with a new tool.

NHTSA Takes Steps to Help Prevent Child Fatalities in Vehicle Collisions

Road accidents occur all the time in our state, and unfortunately our Atlanta car accident attorneys appreciate that in many accidents people are injured.  That was the case with an incident that occurred last week.

On June 13 at around 5:30pm a car accident involving four cars happened on Old Ga. 5 and East Cherokee Drive.  The crash involved a Mini-Cooper, two trucks and a Volvo.  The Georgia State Patrol said a woman was driving her Mini-Cooper into an intersection as the light was changing.  A truck pulling a trailer was turning left in that intersection at the same time, and the woman in the Mini-Cooper swerved to avoid it.  This put her in the way of oncoming traffic and she ended up in a head-on collision with a Ford pickup truck.  Reports also say a Volvo was involved, but the woman in the Volvo had no serious injuries.

For the driver of the Mini-Cooper, firefighters had to use the “jaws of life” to get her out of her crumpled car.  This woman, from Canton, had the most serious injuries from the accident.  The Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services Medcon Operator said her injuries include her left leg broken both in the upper and lower part and a fractured pelvis.  She was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and was in critical condition.  The other injuries were relatively minor to the driver of the Ford pickup truck she ran head-on into, and his 11 year old daughter and three year old son who were in the truck with him.  All three were treated on the scene. wreck
